STREET HAVEN AT THE CROSSROADS OFFERS PATHWAYS FOR WOMEN EXPERIENCING OR AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS, THROUGH A VARIETY OF INTEGRATED SERVICES.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Peggy Ann Walpole worked as a nurse in the Emergency Room of St. Michael’s Hospital in the 1950’s. There she encountered many women who suffered from the debilitating effects of life on the street; violence, isolation, poverty and poor health. Peggy Ann was frustrated, knowing that once these women were treated and discharged, most had nowhere safe to go.
And so Peggy Ann founded Street Haven at the Crossroads in 1965, a drop-in centre where women could have a cup of coffee and access assistance, without judgement.
Street Haven Vision: A community where all women are safe.
Street Haven Mission: Street Haven at the Crossroads offers pathways for women who are experiencing or are at-risk of homelessness, through a variety of integrated services in which women support women. Street Haven Philosophy: Street Haven believes that all women deserve, along with the physical necessities of life, to be treated with dignity and to be given the tools and opportunities to achieve their goals. - We are guided by the principles of anti-racism/anti-oppression and are committed to women’s engagement and women’s leadership. - We believe in women’s right to self-determination. We believe in the values of equity and diversity; in partnerships, education and learning. - We believe in personal responsibility and accountability, in social justice and advocacy. - We achieve these values by offering responsive, reflective and holistic woman centred.

GIRLS UNWANTED The lives of three youngwomen struggling to co-exist in an inner city halfway house. Under the supervision of a woman with issues all her own, their lives begin to further unravel when an unfamiliar relative shows up and they find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation. From the heart and mind of one of Canada's most prolific and raw playwrights, George F. Walker, The King Black Box invites you to explore what can be discovered when we shine the light on the darkest parts of our city and ourselves.
*We regret to inform our patrons that The King Black Box is located on the 3rd floor of the building and does not have elevator access, rendering the space not wheelchair accessible. While we aspire to provide a fully inclusive environment, we currently lack the necessary funds for ground floor real estate. We remain committed to enhancing accessibility and hope to expand our facilities in the future to better accommodate all guests. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support.
