The King Black Box | 2025-26 Season

Founder & Artistic Director: Sophie Ann Rooney | Executive Director: Grisha Pasternak

The King Black Box's 2025-26 season features Romeo Pimp [J. McQueen], a world premiere directed and designed by Sophie Ann Rooney, and Bug [T. Letts], directed by Andrew Cameron with production design by Sophie Ann Rooney. In association with One East Productions and Elkabong Theatre Projects.​​

The King Black Box | 2024-25 Season

The 2024-25 season opened with The Glory of Living [R. Gilman], directed and designed by Sophie Ann Rooney. It continued with the world premiere of Girls Unwanted [G.F. Walker], directed by George F. Walker with production design by Sophie Ann Rooney. The season also featured The Irish Pub Play [A. McClennan], directed by Ziggy Schulting with production design by Sophie Ann Rooney.

​Sterling Studio Theatre | 2012-13 Season​

​Blood Brothers Brewing, whose Shumei IPA, brewed out of a bathtub, made its debut within Sterling's walls. Sterling Studio Theatre was renowned for its Ripped Wide Open mic nights, rap battles, clown nights, spoken word happenings, as well as playwright contests for slots in the Sterling One Act Festivals.​

 

Sterling Studio Theatre's founding season featured Danny and the Deep Blue Sea [J.P. Shanley], Echoes [N.R. Nash], The Glory of Living [R. Gilman], Mrs. Warren's Profession [G.B. Shaw], and Burn This [L. Wilson]. Additional Productions included The Bear [A. Chekhov], Interior: Panic [T. Williams], a revival of By a Thread [D. Flacks]. The Sterling Playwright One Act Fest featured Baby in a Jar and Hitler's Ass [C. Bennett], with proceeds from the latter issued to the Jo-Anna Downey Fund. The company also presented In 40 Years.

 

​Sterling Studio Theatre | 2013-14 Season & Off-Season​

​The 2013-14 season was one of Sterling Studio Theatre's most prolific. World premieres included The Foursome [J. Ford], You Said Love [N. Davis] and Red Bill [M. Eisner]. The season also included Ravenscroft and Spectre [D. Nigro], a remount of By a Thread [D. Flacks], Where's My Money? [J.P. Shanley] Snow Angel [D. Lindsay-Abaire], Dolores [E.A. Baker], and Kuwaiti Moonshine [T.C. Murphy].  Additional productions included The Lover [H. Pinter], Sailor's Song and A Lonely Impulse of Delight [J.P. Shanley], and Central Park West. The company presented Cowboy Mouth [S. Shepard and P. Smith], Out of Gas on Lover's Leap [M. St. Germain], The Trial of Ken Gass [B. Del Rio], and A Life Beyond Doubt [ C. Libman].

Sterling & Unit 102 Coalition

​The Theatre Machine's 2014-15 Sterling portion of the season included the world premiere of The Atomic Tradition [I. Dugalin], directed and designed by Sophie Ann Rooney, later remounted at Fringe. The season also featured Macbeth [W. Shakespeare], directed and designed by Sophie Ann Rooney, and Becky Shaw [G. Gionfriddo], directed by Kyle Labine. The company presented Crimes of the Heart [B. Henley], directed by Miriam Laurence with production design by Sophie Ann Rooney, and presented Canis Familiaris [C. Bennett].
